We met with Halıysa’s founder, İlker Oduncuoğlu, to discuss the brand’s operating model, its experience in the digital sales process, and its perspectives on the current state of the industry.
How did the idea of establishing such a platform emerge?
Although Türkiye has long had a strong carpet manufacturing base, this strength was not reflected adequately in the digital marketplace. Manufacturers and wholesalers often became lost among irrelevant listings on major online marketplaces, struggling to reach the right customer. This gap led to a simple question: “Why shouldn’t there be a dedicated, sector-specific digital marketplace for carpets?” That question became the starting point for Halıysa.
What need prompted you to launch Türkiye’s first and only national carpet-focused online sales platform?
The need emerged from two main points: First, the sector was strong, but digital channels were designed for general e-commerce, not carpets. Second, sellers faced disadvantages in logistics, promotion, and technical infrastructure. The goal behind Halıysa was to establish a local digital structure that allows manufacturers to reach users directly and correctly.
How does the platform operate? How do manufacturers and wholesalers join, and how do sales processes progress?
The operation model is quite simple. Carpet manufacturers and wholesalers open their online stores, list their products, and manage their orders through Halıysa. Payment security is provided by the platform. We handle the technical infrastructure, customer support, and promotional activities, allowing sellers to focus on production and sales.
Compared to traditional sales methods, where does haliysa.com offer differentiation? What advantages does it provide to manufacturers and wholesalers?
Traditionally, manufacturers grow through fairs, wholesalers, or physical stores. In digital space, brand visibility is immediate. On Halıysa, opening a store is easy, there are no advertising costs, products are presented with a modern visual approach, the right audience is reached through the right traffic, and order management is handled from a single panel with invoicing integration. This offers both speed and reduced costs. We serve as a digital showcase for brands, presenting their product stories, design language, catalogues, and sales process in a professional format.
You aim to bring Türkiye’s strong carpet industry into the digital landscape. What are your future plans and goals?
Our goal is to position Halıysa as Türkiye’s digital hub for carpets, and later expand into international markets. In the near term, we aim to increase seller diversity; in the long term, our plans include e-export, international logistics, and Halıysa-branded special collections.
