In order to strengthen its position in Malaysia, one of its target markets, the Turkish carpet industry organized the “Malaysia Carpet UR-GE Trade Delegation” between May 11–14, 2026.
The delegation, organized within the scope of the “Carpet UR-GE Project” carried out by the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association and supported by the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Türkiye to improve carpet exports, was attended by 9 companies.
We Are the World’s Second Largest Carpet Exporter
Turan Göksan, Vice Coordinator Chairman of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations and Chairman of the Aegean Textile and Raw Materials Exporters’ Association, stated that they launched the “Carpet UR-GE Project” in order to strengthen the export capabilities of carpet manufacturers clustered in Demirci. He emphasized that Malaysia, which imports approximately 110 million USD worth of carpets annually, is considered one of the promising markets where the Turkish carpet industry can further expand its exports. Therefore, the third international organization under the UR-GE Project was held in Malaysia.
We Aim to At Least Double Our Carpet Exports to Malaysia
Providing information that Türkiye ranked second in the world with carpet exports reaching 2.8 billion USD in 2025, Göksan said: “We aim to at least double our export volume in Malaysia, which is one of the target markets for our carpet industry. More than 100 bilateral business meetings were held with 25 Malaysian importing companies, and company visits were also organized in order to establish new business partnerships.”
Göksan also shared that the “Malaysia Carpet UR-GE Trade Delegation” was successfully completed with the objectives of conducting price research regarding the Malaysian carpet market and gaining information about quality standards and logistics processes. He added that the other target markets identified within the scope of the UR-GE Project are the USA, Canada, Germany, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar.
