Heimtextil, the world’s leading trade fair for home and contract textiles, is set to open its doors in Frankfurt from 13–16 January 2026. Ahead of the fair, a press conference for industry media representatives was held on the evening of October 1st at The Stay Bosphorus in Istanbul’s Ortaköy district. As Desen Life magazine, we were delighted to attend this special gathering where the latest trends and updates about the upcoming fair were presented.
During the event, Heimtextil Directors Bettina Bär and Margit Herberth delivered an in-depth presentation, unveiling “Heimtextil Trends 26/27” – the creative vision and design directions that will shape the upcoming season.

Where Artificial Intelligence Meets Craftsmanship
Developed under the theme “Craft is a verb”, Heimtextil Trends 26/27 highlights the synergy between technology and craftsmanship. The concept emphasizes how artificial intelligence can provide speed and precision, while handmade techniques bring authenticity, irregularity, and emotional value to design.
Olaf Schmidt, Vice President Textiles & Textile Technologies at Messe Frankfurt, stated: “Heimtextil Trends 26/27 demonstrates how artificial intelligence will transform the textile industry, and how its fusion with craftsmanship will open up new perspectives. This vision inspires sustainable production methods, innovative collaboration models, and forward-looking business strategies.”
Six Key Trends at the Forefront
The presentation outlined six major trends that reflect the interplay of craft and technology:
- Re: media: Hybrid designs evolving from digital renderings into embroidery or jacquard weaving.
- Visible co-work: AI-generated designs completed with refined craftsmanship.
- Sensing nature: Natural patterns and rhythms translated into textiles through algorithmic processes.
- A playful touch: Decorative details that celebrate joy beyond functionality.
- Crafted irregularity: Materials that embrace knots, irregular dyes, and visible stitches as a counterpoint to digital perfection.
- The uncanny valley: Technical elements such as wires and coils integrated as visible design features.
In addition, the new color palette combining earthy, natural shades with vibrant digital accents was introduced as a defining element for the season.
